Where is the Startup Folder in Windows 8 and How To Easily Access to it?

Normally in any previous Windows, we can access the Startup menu items easily through Start menu. But since we don’t have Start Menu anymore in Windows 8, how can we find it?

For starters, the Windows Startup menu is the place where it stores a bunch of program shortcuts that can be launched automatically during the login. It contains the shortcuts from two different physical locations, the current login user’s startup folder and the all user’s start folder. Since we don’t see Startup menu anymore in Windows 8, we need to access to each physical location in order to make any changes to it, like add or delete.

The current login user’s Startup folder is located at:

%appdata%MicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsStartup

And the all user’s Startup folder is located at:

%programdata%MicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsStartup

But isn’t it very cumbersome to dig deep down every time when we need to access it? Yes, you can have the shortcuts placed on desktop but what I am going to show you below is way much easier and cooler.

Press Win+R to bring up the Run box, and type in

shell:startup to open the current login user’s startup folder

and type in

shell:common startup – to quickly open all user’s startup folder.

The Shell commands are pretty cool, aren’t they?
