Apple’s expected smaller-sized iPad, often referred to as the iPad mini, could get unveiled on Oct. 23, according to AllThingsD. That’s just two days before Microsoft is set to loose its highly anticipated Surface tablet upon the world.
This smaller iPad is expected to feature a 7.85-inch display at 1024×768 resolution. According to purported leaked schematics, it would also sport the redesigned Lightning dock connector. It’s expected to be priced around $200 to $250.
Until this week, Oct. 17 was widely rumored to be the date of Apple’s next unveiling. But Apple normally issues invitations to its events a week in advance, and Oct. 10 saw no invites in press inboxes.
AllThingsD expects the event to be an intimate, low-key affair at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium on its Cupertino campus (the same place Apple debuted the iPhone 4S and several other past products). With Apple’s push into the education space, I could see the focus of this smaller, cheaper tablet be on school and student use.
